| Act
One Southern California, UCLA campus, present day. The hyper-caffeinated sisters of Delta Nu burst through the windows of their sorority house singing Omigod You Guys! Led by Margot, Serena and Pilar, they celebrate the imminent engagement of their blonde uber-president and beacon of positivity, Elle Woods, to Warner Huntington the Third - yes, of those East Coast Huntingtons! The girls send Elle off to THE dinner where Warner suavely tells Elle he needs someone Serious... and breaks up with her! Elle is devastated but soon comes up with a plan to win him back (What You Want). First, get into Harvard Law (What, like it's hard?). With help from brainy Delta Nu sister Kate, Elle studies for the LSATs, missing all of the spring semester parties in the name of love. Is Harvard impressed? Only when she bursts into the admissions office with the entire UCLA marching band and the power of love does she prove that she IS Harvard material. The Harvard Variations introduces us to Elle's
snobby classmates. They're unimpressed by her wardrobe. Only scruffy
but adorable Emmett Forrest, a law TA, offers to help her out. But
he can't protect her in his boss' class: Professor Callahan likes to
see Walking into the party dolled up as a Playboy bunny, Elle
realizes she's been duped by Vivienne. She puts on a brave face and
seeks out Warner, trying to win him back (Serious Reprise).
But Warner still can't see the brains behind the bunny. Escaping the
party, Elle runs into Emmett, who is unimpressed with her romantic
problems. Having worked two jobs to put himself through Harvard Law,
he thinks the lost little rich girl needs to suck it up and buckle
down. He slowly gets Elle to reexamine her priorities in Act Two We meet fitness goddess Brooke Wyndham whose jump-rope workout video (Whipped into Shape) is being studied by Callahan and his interns. Brooke is his newest client. She's been accused by her stepdaughter, Chutney, of killing her much older husband. Now she's in prison, getting the inmates in shape. Callahan, Emmett and the interns visit her there, but can't get an alibi out of her…until she's alone with Elle who recognizes a fellow Delta Nu. Swearing Elle to secrecy, Brooke confides her alibi: Brooke had liposuction on the day of the murder. Not willing to betray a Delta Nu's trust, Elle asks the legal team to trust her that Brooke is innocent. Callahan fumes and blames Emmett: he gave him simple instructions: mind the interns and get him the alibi. Emmett is zero for two. Emmett, afraid he's blowing his chance to make Associate, begs Elle to betray her promise. Elle refuses, but offers to help Emmett impress Callahan in a different way. She takes Emmett to a posh department store and makes him over (Take it Like a Man). The results surprise both of them. Back at the Hair Affair, Elle gets a manicure from Paulette as hunky new UPS delivery god Kyle enters. Paulette is beyond twitterpated. Elle tells her to talk to him already. Paulette believes she's got nothing to offer, but as she bends to pick up the package, Elle's Greek Chorus is summoned by the fabulousness of her Bend and Snap. She's a natural! Serena, a UCLA cheer team leader, promises Paulette she's got the pom-poms, and it's time to shake 'em. In Day Three of Brooke Wyndham's murder trial, Brooke's pool boy, Nikos shocks the court by claiming to have had an affair with Brooke. Brooke denies it and Elle stands by her friend - especially after she does a Bend and Snap right in front of Nikos and gets zero reaction from him; clearly he must be gay. The team debates her theory in There! Right There! Later that night in Callahan's office, Callahan singles out Elle for turning the case around. But after dismissing Emmett and the other interns, he tries to kiss her. Elle slaps him and he fires her, confirming her worst fears that she's just there to be blonde arm candy. Leaving his office she runs into Warner. He and Vivienne saw the kiss and Warner assumes she's been sleeping her way to the top. Elle gives up on law school and herself. Emmett tries to change her mind, but she closes the door on him and prepares to go home. (Legally Blonde). Elle returns to the Hair Affair to say goodbye to Paulette but
before she can leave, Vivienne appears. She's changed her mind about
Elle. Elle changes her mind about leaving (Legally Blonde
Remix). Confident once more, she leads a parade back to the
courtroom, picking up her parents and sorority sisters along the
way. The last person they pick up is Kyle the UPS man, who makes
Paulette's Irish dreams come true with a joyous Riverdance of love.
Back at the trial Brooke fires Callahan and replaces him with Elle.
Callahan refuses to step aside, claiming Elle needs a licensed
attorney to supervise. Emmett steps up. He's licensed. He'll
supervise, risking his job and future for Elle. Brooke dismisses
Callahan and Elle is suddenly faced with the toughest witness:
Brooke's stepdaughter/accuser Chutney. Her testimony is damning, but
Elle triumphs by brilliantly trapping her on the stand. The victory
is so major that Warner realizes Elle IS serious and proposes to
her. Elle has what she wanted, but what she wanted has changed -Heather Hach (Book Author) |
